Frequently Asked Questions

Can I tow anything with a prime mover? Do I need to know what the truck can haul?

A prime movers’ payload capacity is the sum of its curb weight and all the cargo weight that can be safely carried. This information is usually calculated by the prime mover manufacturer and noted in the vehicle’s manual. As a truck driver, it is imperative that you always check the load weight via the payload capacity of the type of prime mover. Do not exceed the prime mover payload capacity, especially on long drives. Before hiring the vehicle, you should discuss this with our experienced staff.

What licence do I need to drive a prime mover?
The minimum is a HR licence to drive the rig on its own. However, depending on what you are hauling you may require either a HC Licence (for 1 trailer) or MC Licence (for 2 or more trailers).
Do I need to pay for the fuel I use?

All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel. They must be returned with a full tank but if not, then there is a refuelling charge plus an administration fee. These are explained to you and part of your agreement when hiring the vehicle. Adblue also factors into the running cost of the prime mover. Your Adblue tank needs to be full before you get on the road.

What happens if the vehicle breaks down?

Our vehicles are covered by 24 hour emergency breakdown service. This covers issues such as flat batteries or engine troubles. The emergency contact number is provided in the vehicle. In case of a breakdown, you can call the right number based on the model of prime mover that you have rented. The phone number for Fuso is 1300 426 708. The phone number for Mercedes is 1800 033 557.

Are your trucks available for leasing?

Yes. We can convert a long-term rental into a lease, or if you would like to lease the vehicle from the start, that is also possible. Talk to our friendly staff to learn more about our leasing options.

What happens if the goods I’m transporting get damaged?

If your goods get damaged, SCTR is not responsible as stated in our rental agreement. Before getting on your long drive, always double-check your load and ensure it is adequately secured. Drivers are also responsible for insuring their consignment.
