How much does long-term truck hire cost in Sydney?
Pricing depends on vehicle type, term length, kilometres and the number of vehicles. As a base guide, a prime mover 460 starts from roughly $1850 ex gst, a week, on a short haul, short 3-month term, and an 8T tautliner from $1400 ex gst, a week, short haul, short 3-month term. SCTR trucks are mostly late model and NHVR maintained to reduce downtime and suit projects that prioritise asset reliability. Is it cheaper to rent or buy trucks for a logistics or civil business?
Renting avoids capital outlay, depreciation, servicing and NHVAS maintenance compliance admin, and you can scale the fleet up or down as contracts change. Buying suits trucks with high, steady use over 5+ years. Most fleets SCTR supports own their core vehicles and rent to cover new contracts, seasonal peaks and vehicles off the road.
What’s the difference between long-term truck rental and truck leasing?
A lease locks you into a fixed term, usually 3–5 years, often with residual-value and end-of-lease obligations. Long-term rental runs from 6 months upward, with servicing, roadside assistance and compliance included. You can extend, swap or return vehicles as work changes.
What’s the minimum hire period for long-term rates?
Long-term rates apply from 6 months. Hires of 6 and 12+ months attract progressively better rates. You can hire for shorter periods, and this is common for short term projects, last minute site needs and unknown hire periods.
Do you rent prime movers and trailers long-term?
Yes. Prime movers, tautliner trucks, tautliner trailers, flatbed and drop-deck trailers, are the most popular long-term hires at Southern Cross Truck Rentals. Combinations are also available as single and B-double configurations.

Do you hire tipper trucks long-term for civil and construction projects?

Yes. 2t and 5t tippers and site Utes are available on monthly and project-length terms. Some fleet vehicles already have civil spec fit outs including beacons, reverse cameras, UHF, and site-compliance items to meet principal contractor requirements, this is asset dependent. SCTR can work with project managers to quote and fit some additional requirements as requested for long term project hire.

Are your trucks NHVAS compliant?

Yes. Every vehicle is serviced and maintained to NHVAS standards, and our fleet team manages the maintenance records. That reduces your compliance load under the Heavy Vehicle National Law.

What happens if a long-term rental truck breaks down?

In the unlikely event this occurs, call our SCTR 24-hour line. We arrange roadside repair or a replacement vehicle, where availability allows, so your runs keep going.

Can I hire several trucks at once for a new contract?

Yes. Multi-vehicle hires get discounted rates and a single account manager. We can also supply vehicles at short notice through our extensive cross hire network until ours are available to you.

Can I put my company branding on a rented truck?

Yes, removable signage or decals are permitted on long term hires however the cost to apply and remove any signage is charged to the customer.

Do you deliver hired trucks outside Sydney?

Yes SCTR can deliver trucks outside of Sydney. In these instances, an individual quote will be provided to you, allowing you to decide if it the most cost-effective option for your rental. Prices will vary depending on the distance from our Smeaton Grange truck yard.

Is truck rental tax deductible?

Rental for vehicles used to earn business income is sometimes deductible as an operating expense but this is completely dependent on individual circumstances and asset type. SCTR cannot provide financial advice; you should consult your accountant once you know exactly what truck you intend to hire and its usage.
